Nicky Grant, the head teacher of Alness Academy, has been appointed as the interim head of education services at Highland Council. She will be joining the local authority’s team of executive chief officers, replacing Dr. James Vance in his role. Having previously served as the head teacher of Alness Academy since December 2018, Nicky Grant brings a wealth of experience to her new role. She has also held positions as a depute head teacher in Elgin High School and Kemnay Academy. With a background in physical education and professional football, playing for renowned teams like Celtic, Arsenal, and Frankfurt, she is committed to improving the well-being and achievement of young people in the Highlands.

Ms. Grant expressed her excitement at working with passionate and talented staff in the Highlands, aiming to foster connections within communities and develop sustainable partnerships for the benefit of young people. She is determined to drive collective success and achievements, emphasizing the importance of well-being, attainment, and achievement for all students. The council oversees 203 schools in the region, highlighting the scale of education services that Ms. Grant will be involved in.
