Opposition leaders in Chandigarh claimed that Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann was removed from a flight at Frankfurt airport for being drunk, a charge denied by the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Sukhbir Singh Badal alleged that Mann was inebriated and removed from the Lufthansa flight, causing a delay and leading to embarrassment for Punjabis worldwide. However, AAP’s spokesperson Malvinder Singh Kang dismissed the allegations as baseless propaganda by opposition parties unable to accept the chief minister’s efforts to attract investments to the state during his trip to Germany.
Mann returned from an eight-day trip to Germany aimed at attracting investments, during which the alleged incident occurred at Frankfurt airport. Badal expressed shock at the Punjab government’s silence on the issue and called for clarification from Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. He suggested that the Government of India should intervene in the matter to uphold the pride of Punjab and the nation if Mann was indeed removed from the flight. Congress leader and Punjab assembly’s leader of the opposition, Partap Singh Badal, called for an inquiry into the incident, emphasizing that if the reports about Mann being deplaned were true, it would be a matter of national embarrassment.
