Continental’s Automotive sector has announced its decision to consolidate its activities by moving the operations of its Wetzlar and Schwalbach sites to Frankfurt and Babenhausen in Germany. This decision is part of Continental’s strategy to increase competitiveness within the Automotive sector. The consolidation process is expected to be completed by the end of 2025, with the sale of the unused locations in Wetzlar and Schwalbach in order to maintain employment opportunities.

The sector aims to leverage synergies, streamline work processes, reduce development times, and lower costs by consolidating its operations. Additionally, the headquarters of the Automotive sector in Frankfurt will be bolstered, with plans to establish a competence center for future technologies like high-performance computing. These measures are intended to enhance the company’s cost structure and strengthen research and development collaboration.

The consolidation is expected to affect approximately 2,300 jobs in the Continental Automotive sector in the Rhine-Main region, with around 1,200 positions being eliminated and 1,100 being relocated to Frankfurt and Babenhausen. Currently, the Automotive sector of Continental employs around 8,000 individuals in the Rhine-Main region. The company is committed to working closely with social partners to ensure fair and beneficial outcomes for all employees affected by these changes.
