Dmitry Glukhovsky über die ‘fragwürdige Realität’ von Putins Russland

Muss lesen

In Dmitry Glukhovsky’s latest novel “Text,” he paints a picture of a Russia controlled by a single government-corporation. The novel has been translated into 14 languages and territories, with rights sold to more countries. Glukhovsky describes contemporary Russia as a corrupt state with a decaying value system. He addresses the role of morals and ethics in a society ruled by a higher caste that is increasingly detached from reality.

In “Text,” the protagonist Ilja returns to Moscow after being detained for seven years, only to lose everything and be drawn into someone else’s identity through a dead man’s smartphone. Glukhovsky’s novel is a study of powerlessness in the face of corruption and the influence of prison subculture on mainstream attitudes. He aims to provide a detailed portrait of today’s Russia, highlighting contradictions and tensions beneath the surface that could lead to societal collapse.

Glukhovsky, who also writes political columns for various newspapers, discusses the struggles of post-Soviet Russia in relation to the West. He delves into Russia’s self-image, imperialism, and inferiority complex following the Cold War. Despite potential backlash from Russian officials, Glukhovsky remains steadfast in his writing, emphasizing the importance of conveying messages through literature. He believes that books like “Text” offer a contemplative view of reality and a critical diagnosis of current affairs.

Although some Russians have criticized Glukhovsky’s political stance and accused him of pandering to Western audiences, he remains committed to providing an honest portrayal of Russian society. He acknowledges the limitations of literature in influencing public opinion compared to other media forms but sees value in promoting critical thinking and awareness through his work. Despite potential pressure on publishers carrying his work, Glukhovsky continues to challenge the status quo with his writing, focusing on diverse projects that explore family dynamics and historical narratives.
