Frankfurter Flughafen verbessert Sicherheitskontrollen mit CT-Scannern und neuem Spurkonzept

Dr. Pierre Dominique Prümm, Executive Director of Aviation and Infrastructure at Fraport AG, has announced the successful completion of the project to implement state-of-the-art security checkpoints at Frankfurt Airport. The new checkpoints, equipped with CT scanners from Leidos and featuring a modular design from Gilardoni, have significantly improved security processes. The technology allows passengers to keep electronic devices and liquids in their hand luggage, reducing wait times and increasing throughput by approximately 30%. This has led to a smoother and faster experience for passengers during busy travel periods.

The implementation of the new CT technology at Frankfurt Airport has resulted in reduced wait times for the approximately 35,000 passengers departing from Concourse B of Terminal 1 on 200 flights daily. Fraport plans to extend these advanced security enhancements to all terminals at the airport, including the upcoming Terminal 3. The integration of this technology into Terminal 3’s design plans ensures a consistent and enhanced passenger experience throughout the airport.

The CT technology used in the new security scanners operates similarly to medical imaging, allowing for reliable and efficient detection of various materials and objects. This enables passengers to leave liquids and electronics in their carry-on baggage, leading to a simpler security process. The three-dimensional view provided by the scanners helps in quick and accurate identification of items, reducing the need for follow-up checks and minimizing wait times for passengers at security checkpoints.
