Katie Taylor’s fight against Amanda Serrano, originally scheduled to take place in Texas on July 20th, is expected to be postponed until October or November this year and is likely to take place in Germany. Taylor’s second meeting with Serrano was planned to be the co-main event with Mike Tyson against Jake Paul at the 80,000-capacity AT&T Stadium in Arlington. However, Tyson’s health issues led to the postponement of his fight against Paul and the entire bill was thrown into doubt. A statement from promoters Most Valuable Promotions (MVP) explained Tyson’s need for minimal training due to his recent ulcer flare up.
Sources in the Taylor camp suggest that the Taylor v Serrano re-match will still happen, but later this year and likely in Frankfurt, Germany instead of the USA. While the Texas event has not officially been postponed, staging the Taylor fight without Tyson and Paul was considered unlikely. The original fight between Taylor and Serrano at Madison Square Garden in 2022 was a success, with Taylor retaining her undisputed lightweight championship in front of a sold-out crowd.
MVP had planned to reschedule the match for later this year at AT&T Stadium, but Taylor’s re-arrangement means she will not be part of that promotion. The new date for the fight is expected to be announced by June 7th.
