Airport operator, Fraport, today announced that 5.9 million passengers passed through Frankfurt Airport (FRA) in August 2023 – 13% more than in the corresponding month in 2022.
While welcoming the news, Fraport notes that the monthly total is still 15.3% down on pre-pandemic August 2019.
The latest total means that during the school holidays in the German state of Hesse (July 21 to September 3), FRA handled more than 8.6 million passengers and 58,300 aircraft movements.

Fraport’s Group airports worldwide also reported growth. Ljubljana Airport (LJU) in Slovenia served 149,399 passengers in August 2023, an increase of close to 20% percent year-on-year.
Traffic at the Brazilian airports of Fortaleza (FOR) and Porto Alegre (POA) remained stable at just over 1.1 million passengers (a slight drop of 0.1%). Peru’s Lima Airport (LIM) handled around 2 million passengers (+10,5%) in August.

Elsewhere, traffic figures at the 14 regional airports in Greece rose to 6.1 million passengers (+4.8%). In Bulgaria, the Twin Star airports of Burgas (BOJ) and Varna (VAR) saw numbers soar by 11.6% to 836,229 passengers overall.
